K Ever since I upgraded to Office 365 that contains Outlook 2016, I can no longer use 'Search' to find various contacts or e-mail messages. When I go through the 'rebuild index' advice it shows complete but when I am in the Contacts, Search Tools tab and select 'Indexing Status' it shows '27,486 items remaining to be indexed.' How can that be after the 'rebuild' process stated it had finished? I am considering going back to the stand alone Outlook I previously purchased (Office 2010) as it works great when I search for any key word across all the platforms (contacts, notes, e-mail, tasks, calendar entries etc.). 2018-02-14 20:01:03 Kevin.
C I have done this more than once. It shows everything is indexed. I can use a different search (ctrl-shift-F) and find most things but it doesn't look in attachments as the standard Outlook search will do. This problem just happened earlier this week-not the first time, but previous times rebooting the computer and rebuilding the index resolved it; this time it didn't. It seems like every time they do an update, something that worked before no longer works, but usually someone reports it and it gets fixed.

So, we have a small problem. Our general manager at one of our locations is using Office 2016. We use 365 as our mail client.
The search is wonky. We were able to enter a search, but only items from the last month showed. If we were more detailed (as in complete email address in search), then we were able to bring up the older emails (past a month ago). I've tried re-indexing and the results are still the same. We don't seem to have this problem near as often with Office/Outlook 2010.
I've been searching and searching online for answers, but all I seem to find is 're-index'. When searching, it doesn't give the option at the bottom of the search results for checking the server. Have any of you had the same issues? Have you been able to solve these? I don't understand when we put the full email address, the results will show good, but if you just put in half of it, it only goes back about a month. I assume this is happening with all of the addresses you're searching, and not just the one? Reason I ask is because I actually have seen something similar, but only for a single email address and not all search strings.
User gets email from someone, corresponds for a week, then decides to add that someone to their address book and fills out their full name. Email sent from that person before they were a contact in the address book will only show the email address, but messages sent afterwards will show both the full name and the email address. Outlook now always shows the user the full name of the contact, even for older mails, but the user's name may not actually be a part of the older messages.
Searches for the full name will be missing that first week of correspondence because the name wasn't actually on those messages.
